These inlaid soaps first came about as a studio experiment with end-of-day scrap pieces of soap which we embedded into soap and sliced smooth. Then the look was refined as they came to resemble the late Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata’s embedded concrete and terrazzo work. Cosmic Yuzu is scented with Japanese grapefruit (yuzu) and black tea.
These glycerine soaps are made in very small batches in a studio in Portland Maine, by John and Linda of Wary Meyers. They use a 100% pure vegetable base- no parabens, no phthalates, no sodium laurel sulfate, no animal testing, no detergents, and no alcohol. Measures approximately 3.5" x 2.5" x 1" // 5oz
Husband-and-wife team Wary Meyers started out in Brooklyn designing interiors for their friends and artsy-types. After a magazine column for Time Out New York and a book, they relocated to Maine, decorated their own Portland apartment which would grace many magazines and countless blogs, and still created interiors and installations back in the city. Feeling the desire to make a tangible product, they've taken their design sensibilities and infused them into enticingly scented soaps, which they hand-make in their Cumberland home- working in an attached former beauty salon built for the previous lady-of-the-house in the 1980's. Their work is informed with the Meyers' playful wit and panache.
